“Michelle has distinguished herself at the highest levels in technology, law, business and government. She is the first woman and person of color to serve as the Under Secretary of Commerce and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in our country’s 200-plus year history, and used that platform to promote the advancement of girls and women in science, technology, engineering, math and law. She is a leader and role model for girls and professional women everywhere,” said Carol Robles-Román, Legal Momentum’s President and CEO.
The Honorable Michelle K. Lee is a public company and nonprofit board member, former chief executive, an MIT-trained engineer, a Silicon Valley veteran experienced in scaling fast-growing companies with disruptive technologies, and a top intellectual property expert. As the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO, she was the principal advisor to the President on domestic and international intellectual property policy, and the first woman to serve as Director of the USPTO.
Prior to public service, Ms. Lee served as Deputy General Counsel at Google, a partner at the law firm of Fenwick & West, and a computer scientist at Hewlett-Packard Research Laboratories and the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. She currently holds the appointment as the Herman Phleger Visiting Professor at Law at Stanford University, where she teaches a course on disruptive technologies and their impact on laws and regulations.
The 2018 Women of Achievement Honorees include general counsels of leading companies, partners at top law firms, and a leading lawyer from government. These distinguished women represent a wide range of business knowledge and experience in their industries, and inspire women and girls to seek the highest levels in their careers.
